Let me be so bold as to say that few people appreciate the first breath of spring as much as a North Dakotan.... or anyone who calls the Midwest home. As I write, winter storm watch is blinking on my phone screen. I'm ignoring it. Because this morning I stepped outside and caught a breath of spring. A bird chirped from the treetop nearby and drops of water glistened from icicle tips before splashing to the ground.
Spring always gives me a surge of extra energy. Something about this season inspires me to delve back into good habits and makes all my goals and dreams look possible. Forget New Year resolutions - as soon as I catch the first scent of spring, I'm ready to clean out my closet, wake up early just to work out, memorize a chapter of my Bible in a week, or break in a horse. You get the idea. But even after that first breath comes and goes, slipping into rainy days, mud puddles, and eventually humid summers, there is something more that I love. No matter how many times I try and fail, I have a hundred fresh starts. More than a hundred. Every day is a second chance, every morning is a clean slate. No matter what turmoil the rest of the world might be in, there will always be another spring. Isn't our God so good?
